Healthy and nutritious canteens at our Ethiopian farms thanks to partnership with GAIN

We are pleased to share an important development from our farms in Ethiopia (Debre Zeit and Ziway), where we are further strengthening our commitment to the welfare of our employees. In recent months, we have been working closely with GAIN (Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition) to create a healthier and more nutritious menu for our canteens. This collaboration was recently officially endorsed with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), marking the beginning of a long-term partnership that revolves around nutrition, consistency and care for our employees.

Together with GAIN's nutrition specialists, we have developed a nutritious vegetarian meal concept that will be the new standard within our farm canteens. Our canteen in Debre Zeit (Bishoftu) is the first location where this improvement has been implemented, and preparations are already underway to implement the same approach in our new canteen in Ziway. This will ensure that our colleagues receive a balanced and consistent meal every working day, regardless of their location.

As part of this new step, our Health and Safety Committee in Bishoftu recently organised a small coffee ceremony and awareness session, in collaboration with our HR department. During this meeting, we introduced the new canteen initiative to our employees and discussed the importance of good nutrition and hydration in daily life. GAIN made this moment extra special by giving each employee a personal water bottle as a gift. This thoughtful gesture was much appreciated and highlights an important message: good nutrition is not only about what we eat, but also about how we take care of our bodies during the day.

We are proud of this step forward. It reflects our belief that taking good care of people goes beyond employment; it means investing in dignity, health and long-term well-being. We look forward to sharing further updates as the new canteen concept continues to grow and become increasingly embedded within our farms.
