Rosa Plaza grows flowers at two locations in Ethiopia. The nurseries are located at different altitudes, which enables us to grow a wide range of different varieties. At both nurseries, we work with the same passion and energy every day to produce a top-quality product.
Focus on quality: from greenhouse to vase
Our flowers are harvested daily with the utmost precision, after which they are transported to the barn as quickly as possible. There, a team is ready to sort the roses by length and quality and prepare the bunches.
After the flowers are bunched, they are immediately placed on water with pre-treatment agent in the cold store. The next morning, the roses are packed into boxes to be transported to the airport.
Every day, we ship our flowers by plane to Europe, after which they are processed and further distributed at our location in Aalsmeer.
Every bunch of flowers should positively surprise consumers. That is our main goal. Every employee both in Ethiopia and the Netherlands does their utmost every day to achieve this result.
Rosa Plaza roses are characterised by an excellent vase life of at least 12 to 14 days. We make conscious choices in cultivation to guarantee a top product. We make no concessions in this process: quality is sacred!
One example is that we cut our flowers a little further open. This gives the rose more energy to bloom fully open on the vase.
Reliability is one of the pillars of Rosa Plaza's success. Naturally, we strive to deliver a reliable product every day. But reliability goes much further as far as we are concerned.
Not only must our product be good every delivery, but these must also be delivered according to the agreed specifications at the right time.
Reliability also means that we choose to enter into extensive cooperation with our partners.
We believe in going the extra mile to get the best out of our cultivation. Every day, our team of inspired and enthusiastic staff is at work growing the finest roses. The combination of our Ethiopian management and Dutch cultivation specialists with 'green fingers' results in a winning formula.
Flowers are a living product grown in a changing environment. We rise to the challenge of being one step better at this every day.
Wanting to produce and deliver the best product every day. That is the drive that characterises our company. With the main goal that each bunch of flowers gives the recipient two weeks of pleasure.
The rose is the symbol of love and passion. With this comes the positive energy we put into our product every day.
We work continuously to optimise and improve the production process of our flowers. In doing so, we are convinced of the principle that our crops should be balanced, above and below ground. Ultimately, this leads to minimal impact on people and the environment.
Producing quality flowers with the utmost attention throughout the production and post-harvest process. Every single flower must more than meet expectations.
Everyone on and around our nurseries has a responsibility to create a positive working environment. A positive working environment ensures happy and satisfied employees and this results in a better product.
Rosa Plaza always does its utmost to minimise environmental impact by being progressive in IPM and advanced fertilisation and crop protection methods.
As Rosa Plaza and AQ Roses aims to be an example in the industry, we will always comply with the various leading social and environmental certifications in the sector.

Founded on the North Holland clay, grown into an internationally renowned rose grower. Our company's roots are still a daily source of inspiration. This is where our core values were born, which are still the pillars of our company.
Wim Ammerlaan sr starts a rose nursery with his brother Emiel in Rijsenhout, North Holland. In the 1980s, the focus was on small-flowered roses, such as the Mercedes, Motrea and Carolien.
In 1999, Emiel starts his own business after which Wim and Mieke become owners of the company in Rijsenhout. A few years later, expansion took place. The assortment changed to medium-sized roses such as Passion, Sphinx and Splendid Renate.
Development in the rose industry makes growing roses in the Netherlands almost unprofitable. Sons Frank and Wim jr. join the company after studying Business Administration and Plant Science, and join their parents in the great adventure in Ethiopia. They start a new rose nursery in Ziway on Sher Ethiopia's project.
The nursery in Ziway will be expanded by 20 hectares. In addition, processing will move to its own box in the Aalsmeer flower auction.
With the acquisition of Dummen Orange's production site in Debre Zeit, the company is expanding with a second location.
